Internet Tips (1)

There are a few things you can tweak in Internet Explorer. They all are accessible in Internet Explorer from the Internet Options dialog box (available from the Tools menu):

1.From the General tab, you can delete cookies and/or temporary Internet files. Cookies are text files placed on your computer by the web sites you visit, and they store information about your preferences when you visit. Temporary Internet files store graphics and web pages as you view them, so the next time you visit the site, the information will be cached and load faster. Both can give information about your surfing habits to those who also have access to your computer and know where and how to look for private information.

2.From the Content tab, you can disable AutoComplete. AutoComplete lists possible matches for your partially typed web addresses, forms, usernames, and passwords. Disabling this will help maintain your privacy when others are accessing your computer. If you have AutoComplete on, any user can simply type in a couple of letters of your user name, if they can guess it, and a password will then often appear automatically

3.From the Security tab, you can create custom levels of security using the Custom Level button and configuring options in the resulting Security Settings dialog box. Here, you can disable, enable, or be prompted when ActiveX controls and plug-ins are run; enable, disable, or prompt for downloads; and require user authentication just to name a few of the many options.

4.From the Privacy tab, you can override automatic cookie handling, by choosing to accept, block, or prompt first- and third-party cookies.
